Into the Cold is a work in constant progress, born one morning when I captured the beautiful colours of the ocean, just before sunrise on an old Go Pro. The light and colour you see in the water is unlike anything visible from the shore. It has a depth and texture that is felt only when you're immersed in it.
Ask any sea swimmer, surfer, or sailor, and they'll tell you how the ocean’s surface transforms with the light—how it turns to oil and how the reflections ripple and dance across the water and all around you. These fleeting moments, seen only from within the elements, are what I strive to capture using photography and film.
The rising sea temperature is another critical theme in this project. While a rise of just 1 degree may seem insignificant to many, ask any cold water swimmer, and they’ll tell you that 1 degree in cold water makes a huge difference!
This subtle shift mirrors the broader environmental changes we face—small yet impactful. Into the Cold evolves with each new swim, each sunrise, and the ever changing weather, becoming a reflection of the delicate balance between nature and the pressing effects of climate change.
1 degree is difference between water and ice.
