Sea Ice studies.
My current studio work is deeply inspired by my trips and artist residencies in Svalbard in the High Arctic.
Through Mixed Media studies, I explore the ever-changing surfaces, patterns, and the fragile beauty of Glaciers and Sea Ice.
I work primarily with abstract shapes, painting onto canvas to capture the geometric patterns and shifting textures of the ice. To deepen the connection between the visual and tactile, I incorporate free-motion sewing , working back into the painted images to add layers of texture, cracks and movement. This technique allows me to create works that not only reflect the visual qualities of sea ice but also convey the complex, layered nature of the environment.
Through my art, I aim to evoke both the delicate beauty and the powerful forces that climate change is having on the natural world, highlighting the urgent need to preserve these fragile ecosystems.
All of my work is titled with temperatures to highlight the fluctuations caused by climate change, underscoring the urgency and impact of environmental changes on the Arctic landscape.
